Review

For my first storyboard, I chose to begin with the short film format. In this format I included the mise-en-scene of each panel, as well as the section of the script the drawing represents. This differs to my second storyboard, the animated short film, which uses much larger panels in a portrait display as well as a larger focus on mise-en-scene than dialogue.

While producing my first storyboard, the short film format, I tried to recreate a realistic depiction of my two characters, however, in my animated short film storyboard i opted to design the characters as more cartoonish with unrealistic features such as their eyes and noses.

In both storyboards there are instances of insert shots, as well as the low angle shot featured of our interrogator character at the beginning. I also made sure to always represent the interrogator as being on the right-hand side of the frame and the criminal always on the left to not create confusion.

One type of edit featured in each storyboard is the fade in / fade out from black at the beginning and end of the short story respectively. This creates a meaning of darkness and sets the tone for the short film.

Through descriptions of the scene i included indications of sound, such as the buzzer announcing the arrival of the criminal, the sound of the recording machine being turned on and the scrape of the metal chair on the floor in the background so that the audience can understand that the criminal has sat down without being shown it.

My original intentions for this script was an intense interrogation scene, similar to ones seen in The Dark Knight or the 007 movies. As this is my first attempt at writing a script as well as creating storyboards, it has not come out as successfully as I intended and fell short of my expectations. However, i do not doubt that i can turn the script and storyboards i have created into an engaging enough story.
